Silver is a soft metal< use care in cleaning each time you use an abrasive polish some silver will be removed .Usually silver contains copper to enchance its durability and prevent damage to the metal.Over time tarnishing will occur.

Try to avoid wearing your silver showering or swimming*applying hair colours*hair sprays*suntan lotions or oils. Tarnish is a brown discoloration,cigarette smoke,some foods,household detergents can also effect your silver.Protect your silver jewellery by wrapping it in acid free tissue or wrapping it in resistant cloth then put it in a polyethylene bag.Do not use a silver dip as this will damage the finish and if your silver is set with Gemstones it could remove colour and polish from some gemstones>

You can clean with soap < not detergent> and water . when storing try and keep the pieces apart, so they donot rub together.
